For Taru Harmaala Chaloff, goldsmith and Master of Arts, jewelry is a channel for self-expression. Her designs are often marked by personal experiences. The jewelry’s simple design language leaves room for the wearer’s imagination. Harmaala Chaloff is interested in the personal significances associated with the jewelry by the wearer. The wearer makes the jewelry whole by adding a personal story to it. When the wearer has a strong emotional bond to a piece of jewelry, it gives power.

Nolla

The Nolla jewelry series introduces renewable, innovative biomaterials to Kalevala Jewelry. Nolla jewelry is made from 100% recycled silver and a plant-based biomaterial developed in Finland. The colors of the biomaterial also come from nature: black from soot, blue from woad, and green from metal oxide. Designed by Taru Harmaala Chaloff, the jewelry series was inspired by Finland's endangered flowers, the Meadow Rue in particular. The Finnish name of the jewelry series "Nolla" means "Zero" in English.

Tree Spirit

Tree Spirit is a tribute to the soul and spirit of Nordic people who have their roots in forests. Through the ages they have confided their joys and sorrows and deepest secrets to the woods – the trees will listen but never gossip. In forests many of us still find peace and feel connected with nature.
